I am extremely curious
I need to know how and why everything is the way it is and how it can be done better. Whether I’m hovering over an electrician or discussing color grading with a director of photography - it is going to be a deep dive. I think people who are passionate about what they do appreciate this curiosity… at least I hope they do. Maybe the electrician just wants to bill the extra hour.
I know details matter
I’m the type of person that takes the extra 4 hours to simmer tomato sauce made with San Marzanos I grew from seed in my garden. I’m also the type to put in the time when it comes to details like dialing in wardrobe and props in a commercial or kerning type on a tiny mobile banner.
I thrive with creative limitations
In art school, I ditched my painting classes to spend time in the pottery studio. I wasn’t interested in “expression through brushstrokes”. I needed limitations - a painting could be literally anything, but a pot needs to hold water. Of course, I love pretty things, I’m an Art Director. But I want to create ads that stick to the strategy and communicate the right message to the right people, all while looking good.
